In a USA Today article entitled "Silence Can Be Deadly"; it is reported that in 2017 there were 129 Line of Duty deaths for law enforcement. 46 of those deaths involved firearms. During that same time, there were 140 officers who died by suicide. The statistics through October 22, 2018 are very close, if not a little higher.
Many believe that PTSD is a major factor behind the Law Enforcement Suicide rate, as well as the law enforcement divorce rate, which is and historically has been higher than the rate of the general public.
What can be done to reduce these numbers? A place to start is open, honest, often vulnerable communication. Who can we talk to? How do we communicate?
SILENCE IS DEADLY. Let's move forward, past the tough guy, don't need any help image and talk to our spouses, friends, co-workers, and counselors to save our marriages and our lives.
These communication issues are addressed in Bridging the Gap. Contact me with any thoughts about this blog at info@glenwilliamspublicspeaker.com
